I asked this question before and it seemed to have been deleted! What do you think of burqas?Do you think they should be banned?

What do you think of some/many Muslim women wearing them?

I think that burqas should be banned in a society because of things like security and identification and how some terrorists or criminals could commit crimes while under burqa to not be identified.People can be free to believe(and interpret their religion differently)or not believe what they want and dress as they want but…governmental and public secularity over religions all the way…especially when it comes to things like society's security and safety from harm. Some Muslims say argue that burqas are to protect the woman from potential sexual harassment, rape and the sexual gaze of men so that she may be perceived as pious. It should not be the responsibility of the woman, through what she chooses to wear,to stop men from sexually harassing or raping her.Men should be in control of their sexualities. Its okay if men get horny or feel something sexual(just like how women can get horny too and can also feel great from flirting or attention at times)but acting upon it through nonconsensual sexually transgressive behaviours should not be tolerated...

Update:

I admit that it can be confusing when one is not capable of flirting(due to fear of it being perceived as sexual harassments)to,for example, initiate the process of being with a partner as a couple(making it seem like Islamic arranged marriage through parents is the only way)but that’s kind of another topic(is it?)...

Update 2:

...which is somehow also related because some/many men-demonizing feminists who think of everything as sexual harassments or potential sexual harassments seem to be okay with and more than just tolerant or accepting of many Muslim beliefs and practices(like they want Sharia law or an Islamic caliphate)and silent on how hijab is being forced on women in many places around the world…

Update 3:

So what do you think? And why do you think was the question deleted? Is it wrong to criticize a religion and/or beliefs and practices in that religion now?

  • There are currently 6 nations in Europe that have banned the burqa, Austria, Denmark, France, Belgium, Latvia, and Bulgaria -- and I find nothing wrong with their reasons. France for example has LAICITE so it is not likely this is for religious reasons.

im a m uslim woman living in Saudiarabia... to us. a Burka means the whole tent covering thing that afghani women wear where as there is a woven opening for the eyes. and nothing shows... ... which is WRONG.. in the Quran. God tells us to dress modestly to protect our beauty from harmful eyes and to not be harmed... Christian women and jewish women (should) follow this advice too, God says so in the bible .... anyways.. in SAudiarabia, we women wear a cloak... its called an abaya, and a scarf over our hair.. most women wear black, but any color is ok, and you see many colors too... but this is actually an article of clothing of convienence.... the real rule of thumb, is.. if the clothing isnt see through, and not skin tight as to show your body shape, and covering your chest, legs, arms, etc.. then you are fine... you can wear a shirt/blouse that goes a bit down over your bottom, and loose slacks, jeans, pants, or skirt that goes down to the floor, not shorts, not mini skirts, etc... and as for hair, any scarf is fine... .. some women wear a face veil, this is cultural and not needed in Islam, nowhere does God ask us women to cover our face. in fact, he says to leave open what is apparent... well if you cover everything, nothing is apparent.. lol.... also for security, people need to know your face to know who you are, as to not be a criminal.... .... I dont think wearing a cloak should be banned, but the face veil should be... its like a mask, and it can be used by terrorists and criminals.... (yes im muslim)

bur·ka -- a long, loose garment covering the whole body from head to feet, worn in public by many Muslim women

I think the burqa is degrading; there's no reason for women to wear a sack. But I don't think it should be banned.

However, in this age of terrorism and indiscriminate murders, no one should be able to obscure their identify with a face-cover.

It is just another means for man to falsely believe that he (or she) is righteous before God by some external act.

    God is not mocked.

I think probably there are some places where a person's features need to be visible and that a burqa, “hoodie”, crash helmet, etc. should not be allowed.

Generally though there's no law that requires a person to show their features - they can wear a wig, false beard and even a mask if they want. I think it would be unfair to pick on women wearing burqas.

No. I'm a Christian Except for public decency, no-one should dictate what another should wear.

Besides someone could wear any number of disguises if they really wanted to hide their faces. A scarf will do. Should they ban those?

Burqas are disgusting symbols of oppression and should be banned.

What they said. As much as I despise Islam, I wouldn't ban burqas. The government doesn't need to know who everyone is at all times.

  • No. Although I dislike burqas and think they degrade women, I don't think it is the place of the government to impose such laws. Islam is a backward cult but laws such as this are not going to make it better. Expose Muhammad and his teachings instead.

    No.

Women should be allowed to cover their faces if they want except in places like banks, airports etc
