It appears no one on here knows about Freud's real views on Religion.?
Sigmund Freud, although he was atheist, understood very clearly what defective fathering can do to belief in God. In a 1910 essay on Leonardo Da Vinci, he wrote: “…youthful persons lose their religious belief as soon as the authority of the father breaks down.”

His views on religion and many other topics do not prove anything other than those were his views.
And while he might be correct about religion and fathers, that doesn't explain why many atheists chose to become atheists as adults (not as youthful persons).

Freud was wrong.
People lose their belief when they realize that gods are human ideas and can be traced back to the cultures that invented them.

Freud's ideas on projection are fundamental to following Christ's ideas. Judge not or you will be judged. Was Freud aware of that? I don't know. We attract the fathers we have to learn from them.
