How does knowing the amount of pyruvic acid help determine the rate of glycolysis?

    It doesn't unless you also know the rate of pyruvic acid being converted into something else or exported or used.

    This is because glycolysis produces pyruvate as the first transitional step between glycolysis and the Citric Acid Cycle (aerobic) or lactic acid (anaerobic) tracks.
