I have never heard of Columbus Day being "celebrated" except by public service employees getting the day off.

They celebrate it by going to work and school as most places are open. Some have a special story telling about Christopher Columbus while others protest the holiday as racist cause of the destruction to civilizations that followed Columbus's visit though not directly by Christopher Columbus.

No one really celebrates it, then only ones who care are govt employees who get a paid day off

Why would anyone celebrate the second European expedition to reach the New World? He didn't even make it to the mainland, just picked up some slaves and went home.

Holiday? Columbus Day... I have heard about it, and of course the extra half pound of news paper ads.

But, the Idea of "Celebrating", never gave that a thought.

It was just another day. No extra pay, No day off, nothing to make it really special.

    No one celebrates Columbus Day.

If they get it off from work, it's just a day off to do with what they please. Almost no one would have ever requested it off to celebrate Columbus Day.
