If you are smelling anything that may irritate the lining of your sinus cavities, then yes it can cause sinus inflammation and mucus production. Many people call this a sinus infection. Its more of an allergy as I described it. An infection is if a virus or bacteria were to start growing in your sinuses. Keep in mind that an infection could happen later with inflamation and mucus congestion.

Not a good idea is it? Can it cause sinus problems? I'm assuming you mean LIT candles.

I think so. Smelling scented candles with artificial fragrances is just not good for your respiratory system. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. Essential oil and unscented candles are a good alternative.
