Can you eat clothing?

A recipe I found online calls for 2 gym socks  but then I realised that you can’t eat stuff like that and now I’m so confused I might die (not really but still confused). Can you eat clothing and I’m just unaware of it?

That's not a recipe, it's a pattern (unless it contains other food products, then it's just crazy and I'll call Troll!

However, dogs sometimes do eat socks, and it's a medical emergency because it clogs their intestines.  I guess that would be true of humans, too.
