glass in fibers will not dissolve. Silicate materials are not easily dissolved. It can (usually would) get expelled via the usual mucous-rejection mechanisms (normal response to particulates in air), and macrophages can eat some of the particulates, but often some gets isolated as a hard body, a cyst of sorts. It does not have to create a cancer, or cause emphysema or lung flexibility decrease (typically via scarring of the lung lining), but it can if the numbers of fibers are very high. You would not get any such hazardous exposure from a single event.

We all have stuff in our lungs that basically got trapped in there forever. A lot of stuff can get worked out and away, but some stuff just gets stuck there. Can't avoid it. The air has solid particles in it pretty well anywhere you go. The lungs are designed to deal with it except when it is very excessive, or when the person is exposed for very long periods to elevated particulates in air (we all suffer some lung damage as the years pass).
