Plus tax? I have had 2 health club memberships that charge a flat rate. I was surprised when I got a Pilates membership and was charged tax?

I live in KY. I am not sure if laws vary from state to state. I just notice that my former gym charged a $50 flat rate every month. My yoga membership is $89 per month. I was shocked when I signed up for a Pilates membership (which is already expensive) and was charged tax. Is this allowed? Could they be up to shenanigans?

If someone charges taxes, the laws say they must send the money to the state/ county / city.   I can only GUESS that the Pilates HQ is in your state and the others are not.  That really doesn't seem like a good answer b/c you use the "service." in your state.  I'd call the Pilates office.

It isn't 'allowed'. It is REQUIRED BY LAW.

The only thing different is that some gyms HIDE the tax in the advertised rate.

The Pilates instructor actually tells you how much tax you are paying.
