I don't understand what it is saying. I am on universal credit (support group, the 'not expected to look for work' part) as I have a long term disability and illness. I also receive PIP. Will my benefits be changing? Thanks.

increases in the amount of benefit paid has been frozen since 2016 - from 2020 they will increase in line with inflation again
so yours will increase next year

It's very simple. For the last few years, benefits have been frozen so they haven't gone up. The government is now promising that the freeze will end so they CAN go up. So next year you should start getting a little more, in line with price inflation. Clearly this is good news for you.
Labour is complaining that this is just a bribe with the general election coming up. Bu they're offering to spend more anyway so it's highly hypocritical of them to moan.
So yes, your benefits should be changing next April, so that you get a bit more.

Ok. Let's summarise and get the basic gist of this!
You are about to be offered, by the Tory "government", a very small increase on any benefits that they won't take away from you - until they've won the GE and you go straight back to being f*cked! Or well f*cked if they have a large majority!

The clamp on universal credits will end as agreed in 2020.And you will get a rise of 1.7%. But don't be too sure.
The idea behind the Tory press release is that you should now say thank you to the Tories for ending the misery that they have imposed on you all since 2016 and you should now vote Tory.
But, if I was you. I would tell them to stuff their Tory Party, there where the sun doesn't shine because if they get into power again, they will squeezes your balls until you are Tory-blue in the face.

You may get a slight increase in Universal Credit if the Tories win the election. I think it's something like 1.7%.

You're probably lying.

Whatever, it will not be rising by any worthwhile amount. You can ask at your local Citizens Advice centre.

The austerity cuts were to end next year!
But for the purposes of electioneering, it's putting a spin on the news.
This may explain it better.
