Can I grow plants in decorative sand in an aquarium?
I'm trying to grow plants in my aquarium and was wondering if i can grow them in the sand instead of aquarium soil. thx.

Yes, you can. It won't be ideal for the plants that are heavy root feeders and the plants may grow more slowly, though. Adding some Flourish Root Tabs will help. I successfully grow Dwarf Sagittaria, Dwarf Lily, Anacharis, Water Sprite, Hygro species, Cryptocyrne species, and Bacopa in my tank with aquarium sand. Plants that get most of their nutrients from their leaves rather than their roots should be good.

No decorative sand contains chemicals that will make it impossible for plants to grow but what you can do is you can put your plants into little pots and bury them right up to the edge in the decorative sand I've seen that done plenty of times.
