How much does a tongue piercing hurt?

I wanna get my tongue pierced in December and I'm wondering what to expect pain and swelling wise? I've wanted to do it for years but there's always been valid reasons not to get it done. So, I'm tying to figure out what to expect pain and swelling wise. 

Any advice or input helps?

    The pain wears off other than catching it after the first day or so, and the swelling rarely lasts more than a week.

    I guess it depends on whether it gets infected or not.
