Should I use an edible food pen or paint?

I want to paint an egg pink, but I'm not sure whether the edible food pens would be better then paint (so I could do a design), or if they'd even be visible on the shell.

    Use white eggs and dye them with food coloring like making Easter Eggs.  You are not eating the shell and food coloring is safe to eat.

    Neither, if you mean boiled egg in their shells just add a few drops of cochineal or another red food colouring to the water.|they will come out uniformly dyed. If you can,try and get white eggs rather than brown.
