Carnegie Mellon Summer Session?

Has anyone attended/know someone who attended Carnegie Mellon’s Summer Session Pre-College program? I’m considering pros and cons and would love if anyone has any input. It’s over $10,000 to attend (which is crazy), and I was wondering, to be frank, is it worth it? I’ve heard people say it doesn’t help admissions at all and could honestly just hurt your chances. Also, transferring credits could be a nightmare, considering Carnegies website didn’t clarify if other colleges accept them. I have, and will continue, to do research on it, but does anyone have experience with this? Thank you!

It looks like only the SAMS and Summer Session offer credit classes; most of the Pre-College programs at Carnegie Mellon do not.

It's always up to the university you're transferring to whether they will accept the credit. I wouldn't expect you would have a problem transferring the credit; Carnegie Mellon is a well-known, accredited university, and the classes are taught by CMU faculty and are the same classes that are offered to undergraduates, but CMU can't guarantee anything.

Such programs aren't going to hurt your chance or admission, except to the extent that they take away from more impressive activities. That is, they look better than spending the summer at the beach, but not better than working as a lifeguard for a summer.

But they're really not going to help much, either, except to show that you are academically capable of college-level work, and that your parents can afford an extra $10,000.
