Is chivalry really caring about women or is it just condescending women and following stupid shallow rules?

Every rule of chivalry once had a practical function. Mostly pertaining to the ridiculous wardrobes women used to be forced to wear. There was a time when a woman literally couldn’t pull her own chair out because her sleeves were too tight. Ditto things like opening doors. Of course in contemporary times much of this is unnecessary. But any woman in stilettos trying to descend a flight of stairs soon realizes there’s sometimes a point to having a “chivalrous” man on your arm.

Chivalry is from the days when women were hampered by long 'drag the floor' dresses and uncomfortable boots. They needed 2 hands to hold their dresses above the muddy ground and couldn't easily open doors, without either dragging their skirts in the mud or risk tripping over.
Chivalry these days is more about showing your respect to all & should be done by both men & women. It's more about being polite to everyone. So not letting a door slam back into someone's face, as they follow on behind you. Giving up your seat to people who look knackered, regardless of age or gender.

It has nothing to do with being condescending to women. Chivalry is built on the protection and care of women by men. The men that do the behavior either do it because it makes them look better, it makes them feel good, because they were raised into it, and or because they feel it is the proper way to treat a woman. Some men do the behavior towards all women, while most men that do the behavior will only do it towards the women they care about. On that last note, it should be mentioned that chivalry is meant to be acted upon when addressing all women, not just the women the man loves or cares about.

Chivalry has nothing to do with women. It just has to do with being kind to another, like opening a door for someone else. The same people who fcked up this word was probably the same person who fcked up "feminism"
