Why do FAFSA rewards change sometimes?
Nothing about my application has changed, but for some reason this year my spring semester refund is double what it usually is. I'm certainly not complaining, but I'm curious why it happened.

When you have more aid than is needed to pay your bill at the school, the difference is refunded to you. That refund can change if the amount you are being charged changes, or if the amount of aid changes. There are a lot of reasons for this. You might have had a charge that occurred in the fall semester but not in the spring (such as health insurance). Or, you took more courses in the fall than you did in the spring, so the charges were higher. It could also happen if you had more aid in the spring. For example, you had a scholarship or grant that was applied only to the spring semester. Or, it could be that you weren't eligible for some types of aid in the fall because you hadn't completed the requirements for it then, but now you have. Or, you have accepted a loan that you previously declined. And, of course, it's possible that it's an error. Since refunds are specific to the student, you would have to ask your financial aid or student account's office for an explanation in your particular case.
