7 AnswersFashion & Accessories2 months agoWhat does preheating do exactly?
I understand that when you preheat the oven it prevents the food from cooking unevenly, so the inside & outside match, but Im curious what the science is behind this. I dont quite get it & would rly appreciate someone explaining it to me thanks
10 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs2 months agoGood response to this overused joke?
So! I have narcolepsy, and to help counteract that in my college courses I audio record all of my lectures just in case I fall asleep during one & miss something. I've done this a few years now, and when asking permission at the start of each semester all of my instructors happily agree but use the same joke. With very few exceptions, almost every single one says "go ahead, as long as you promise not to use anything I say against me haha"
It was amusing the first few times but now Im completely desensitized to the joke and expect it. I dont have a problem with it really, but I'm unsure what to say in response as its getting increasingly harder to fake a laugh.

4 AnswersMovies5 months agoWhat influences most morticians?
I'm in mortuary science school & have no issue with dead bodies whatsoever. However, in my experience most morticians, students, and media claim that future morticians have some negative involvement with death early in life.
Intellectually I know its just a different reaction, a fascination/interest in contrast to the usual aversion most people have when faced with death so early.
But whats considered normal for morticians specifically? Do most have a negative experience & just react abnormally (as in a fascination with death rather than disliking the topic)? Or is it something else?
1 AnswerOther - Health9 months agoWhat is the big diet difference between fructose, glucose, sucrose & HFCS, ?
I know sucrose & fructose are both simple sugars but I dont get how theyre actually different. I also dont really understand the dietary significance behind all of these different classifications? Like, I know that complex sugars are worse than simple ones, but I dont really know WHY & even my medical profs in college havent been able to explain it. I'd really like to understand please.
Biology9 months agoWhy does dog gas smell so bad?
Not trolling, genuinely curious. Why does it smell so much worse when a dog passes gas than when a human does? Do their shorter digestive systems just build up more methane or something?
8 AnswersDogs1 year agoWhat does normal 'tired' feel like?
If others can't answer this from lack of my perspective I understand, but I'm very curious what to expect. I have narcolepsy and, while I'm functional after being on my medication for a decent while, I'm still not quite to the 'normal' level yet (a cording to my doctor). So I'm curious, when will I know I'm normal? How tired is an acceptable amount? How can I tell? What can I expect?
Medicine1 year agoDo trolls realize we can change our usernames?
I've had it happen a once in the past where some troll decided they just didn't like me & would stalk every single answer & question I posted, blatantly commenting that regardless of my reply they were reporting me for no reason other than their (self admitted, unwarranted, hatred). It was to the point they would even state in every comment how much they planned to harass me until I, verbatim, "abandoned the platform entirely."
Do these people realize we can just change our usernames and, from then on, no longer have to deal with them ever?
(for further proof, my questions are never assaulted after I change my UN, only before, so it was clearly the person just refreshing my profile rather than anyone actually reacting to my questions themselves).
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 year agoIs aged cheese more aged based on fridge time after purchase?
I'm watching videos and got curious, so as an example: you have 18 month aged cheese and it stays good in the fridge for another month. Is it now 19 month aged cheese?

We say it pretty often in America, but do other culture do this as well? I'm not sure where it originates or how common it is
1 AnswerOther - Cultures & Groups1 year agoWhat's your opinion on people watching videogame youtubers?
I know a lot of people like them and a lot dislike them, but I'm in-between.
Personally, I watch them when I want to know if a game is worth purchasing first-hand or if I can't afford a game but still want to experience the story. However, some people (mostly kids) take it too far and get addicted to the content. I'm also aware some people don't see a point in it at all. What do you think?
17 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 year agoWhy do FAFSA rewards change sometimes?
Nothing about my application has changed, but for some reason this year my spring semester refund is double what it usually is. I'm certainly not complaining, but I'm curious why it happened.
1 AnswerFinancial Aid1 year agoLiberals & democrats only; what sexualities do you actually consider valid?
For context, I'm not liberal or conservative, and I'm only asking out of curiosity.
Personally I understand straight, gay/lesbian, bi/pan, and ace, but some people seem to identify with terms so incredibly specific its wild. Most of the other sexualities I've heard of sound like they could just fit under one of those I listed above, and the rest just being personal preference. What's your opinion? If there's others you stand by could you please explain why to me?
7 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 year agoWhy do my sinuses get better with steam?
I have chronic issues with sinus pressure on the left side of my face to the point that I can often barely pass air through my left nostril, and have grown used to the pressure sensation in the area. Steam is the only thing that seems to help when it gets particularly bad, but I'm curious why steam helps exactly. What does steam do to the sinuses to make them react like that?
1 AnswerOther - Health1 year agoHow do I stop being afraid of the dark?
I'm a 21 year old guy, but this is a recently developed phobia and I have a good reason for it.
I have narcolepsy & one of the symptoms of it is night time hallucinations. I grew up with them all of my life and if became normal for me to see/hear things; before my diagnosis I thought everyone else experienced that every night as well.
Since getting on medication to treat my narcolepsy I no longer have the hallucinations, and in an odd way that has made me afraid of the dark. It's become ingrained in my head that there's other creatures in the room (I know there aren't actually, but it's the mindset I'm used to & thinking that way has proven to be a near-impossible habit to break). The feeling things/people are in my room persists, but now I feel like I just can't see where they are, like they're hiding or waiting to jump out.
I know thinking this way is irrational, but irrational fear one can't control is the very definition of a phobia.
What can I do to fix this? I've been free of the hallucinations for 2 years now and the phobia still hasn't gone away; am I just doomed to always be a grown man afraid of the dark?
3 AnswersPsychology1 year agoWhy is it a common thing for neo-nazis to shave their heads?
5 AnswersPolitics1 year agoIs this common for dogs?
My dog does this very cute thing where she places her front legs over your shoulders, sits on your lap, and presses her torso against yours to imitate a hug. It's adorable and I love it very much, but I've never seen or heard of another doing this before.
Is this odd/uncommon and special to her? Or is it relatively normal and I just happened to not encounter another dog that does it by chance alone?
5 AnswersDogs1 year agoHow to kick out an alcoholic?
As a college student I'm still living at home (planning to move out in the next year). My mother's boyfriend's son is 26 (5 years older than me) & very kind. He's been allowed to crash on our couch plenty of times in the past, but recently he's stopped helping around the house to compensate and has kept himself wasted for over a week straight. No one wants him here anymore and we all plan to politely confront him later today with an intervention, but none of us have any experience kicking someone out before. He's always been nice, so we're unsure how to tell him we want him out without coming across as cruel.
What should we say? How do you politely kick someone out?
(for reference, he is absolutely an alcoholic & has been for years, we're kicking him out because of how bad it's gotten but not for the alcohol itself, he's been allowed to stay here drunk plenty of times before)
