Why do my sinuses get better with steam?
I have chronic issues with sinus pressure on the left side of my face to the point that I can often barely pass air through my left nostril, and have grown used to the pressure sensation in the area. Steam is the only thing that seems to help when it gets particularly bad, but I'm curious why steam helps exactly. What does steam do to the sinuses to make them react like that?

Steam does two things, adds heat which makes the crap break up a bit and move. It also ads moisture, which sort or waters it down and makes it move. The movement means drainage and when it is moving. Try to get as much of it gone as possible. You also may want to try sinus sprays and rinses(non medicate/just saline). They can often produce the same results.
