What would happen if a large quantity of oxygen was released in an area?

What would happen if a large quantity of oxygen was released in an area? I'm working on a story with organisms that do this so I want to get it right. What effects would a large amount of oxygen released have on the surrounding environment? What would breathing and etc. be like? How would it affect other organisms?

(Please only answers from people that actually understand this and not just wild guesses.)

assuming this is in the open, the oxygen would disperse quickly. In the meantime, there would be an increased risk of fire, and any existing fire would be very fierce and burn quickly.  Humans would get a bit dizzy for a bit.
