Why Do People Only Love or Hate Trump?

You are right. He has done some smart things. But they are overshadowed by the dumb things he's done (like ignore the intel about COVID19) and most of all by his total lack of civility. He began is tirades against people and institutions back when he was simply an candidate. That's when he coined "fake news" and berated the free press because they carried negative stories about him...negative, but true I might add.

Of all the negative things about Trump it's his lack of manner and civility that has polarized Americans the most. Those who think his foul mouth and foul demeanor are OK because those are just telling it like it is are strong proponents. Those who think a POTUS should be civil and have understanding are strong opponents.

I have a serious aversion to liars, and Trump is a YUGE casual liar.  Even when he does something successful, his brags about it contain lies.  I think honesty is the foundation for trust, and trust is the basis for any successful ongoing human interaction.  I find lies highly destructive.  Especially Trump's.

If you can't see the damage, the lying, the crimes, the corruption, the destruction to our democracy and to our country that are happening on a daily basis, I question your intelligence and rationality.

I appreciate your honest viewpoint, but I'm curious.  What things has Trump done right?

His very personality doesn't help him any and he really doesn't leave a lot of grey area in that regard.  Like everything else these days it's about picking sides and choosing the "facts" that align with beliefs.  I personally hate Trump because he's an impulsive a$$hole and has been so long before he was president, but am perfectly capable of seeing both sides

He's a very extreme personality who both deliberately and unconsciously takes positions which are designed to polarize people. So he's not someone who many people will have a fairly neutral opinion about. In fact, one of the selling points of Joe Biden in the coming election is the idea that he's going to return us to a more normal sort of politics where things will be boring. With Trump it's not boring. He's saying and doing crazy stuff all the time. If you like what he's doing then you like him but if you don't then you hate it.

Because Trump and Republicans go against our agenda and ideology, and vice versa.

The world is changing and America is at a crossroads; whoever wins out now will define America from here on out. And I certainly don't want to live in a right-winger's vision of America.
