It's been 2 days and cat won't come out from behind washing machine ?
Hi everyone :)
So a friend of mine would always feed cats that would come to her yard. She said she had gotten them taken to the vet and got their shots. Anyway, idk if this is a stray or feral cat but she/he hasn't made any noise since I brought her home. It's been a day and maybe I'm being impatient (I'm an amature never owned a cat) is this normal behavior? The cat hasn't ate, meowed or drank anything and it had been hiding under the bathroom sink since I brought her in. I fell asleep and now just woke up to find her gone somewhere. Update: this morning I got up and found her behind washing machine and she's been there all day( I live in an apartment) should I just give her time?

Find a small room where she can stay for a few days. Put her litter box, water, and towels or a bed in there. Bring food to her a couple times per day. The whole house is much too scary and a new cat will find it much too intimidating. She needs her own space, where she won't need to worry about something jumping out at her.
If she is simply a stray, she will come around after a few days. If she is a feral cat that will show because she will not allow you to touch her and she may hiss if you approach her. It is assumed you picked her up to get her to the vet, so she may not be feral since feral cats cannot be handled.
If feral, allow her to eat when she is comfortable. Read the following link in how to tend to a feral cat. We have a formerly feral cat and she is now a wonderful house pet, who sometimes demands attention. She loves to be with us - quite a change from the terrified animal she was when we brought her inside.

Basically, kitty needs a safe area where she will not feel threatened. Give her this, which is a smaller space for her to get adjusted to. This will make her transition much easier.
Your kitty will thank you for giving her a home, once she gets over her fright.

did u put a bowl of water and a dish with food next to her hiding place? I personally think people should not bring stray or feral cats to live inside. this is like bringing an innocent animal to prison. let the cat go. u want a kitten - adopt a small kitten.

Leave water and dry cat food out at night where the cat can easily find it. The cat is terrified right now and will take a long time to get used to you and the noise in the apartment. It's obviously a ferral and you'd better put a litter box close by to it or your home will start to smell like cat pee and that's really bad as you can't get rid of the smell.

I’ve owned cats all my life. When you set food out near the machine, leave it there and walk away and go do something else for a while. The cat probably won’t eat with you nearby yet. Slowly work your way up to it. If you come back to an empty bowl, keep doing that and one day, sit in the room on the other end of the room and slowly move closer. But if after a few attempts you’ve left the food out there for a good while and the cat still won’t come out, your best bet is to force it out. Block off its hiding places once you do get it out. And take the cat to the vet as soon as possible either way.
