    It would be helpful if you mentioned WHICH civil war you're talking about.

    Many countries have had civil wars!

    Long term development? You are overintellectualizing it. It was slavery, pure and simple. The value of slaves held by the south was more than double the value of the entire northern industrial base.

    The industry of the North was booming and needed cheap labor but is was in the cotton fields in the South so the first development was...to put "free the slaves" into motion and but this grew into a War and with the Black work force unhurt, the now free slaves flew to the North........sneaky but it worked...
