Can someone in national guard explain how things work? And for someone still in high school to join?

I'm still in HS and I turn 17 in May but won't be a junior til the upcoming school year. Can I still join? Will I get paid enough to quit my slightly above minimum wage job? pros and cons? Will it actually pay for ALL of my college?

you can enlist at 17 with parents' permission and as a rising Senior in high school.  you would.   you would attend basic training the summer before your Senior year and you would drill one weekend a month your Senior year, attending Tech school after you graduate.

as an E1 without job training, you'd make less than $200 a month.  you do not earn educational benefits until after Tech school.  and the state depends on how much of your tuition is covered.   the best-case scenario is that your base tuition for a state-run school is covered.  NOT fees,  books,  room or board.

The answer is NO. While being a drilling member of Army or Air National Guard in MOST states will pay STATE college or university tuition and you will receive additional Federal tuition assistance it probably won't pay for all the costs of four years of college attendance. At best, you will only receive $200 - $300 a month while drilling.

How are you going to live? Housing, food, clothing, and MEDICAL INSURANCE? TRICARE health coverage is available to drilling Guard and Reserve members, but you have to pay for it. Better try and work ALL of this out with a Guard recruiter  before joining.  It can pay for a great deal of college, but not all.

You must be 18 or 17 with parents permission. You can join while in high school but must be almost finished your junior year. You then go to Basic between Junior and Senior year, then AIT after graduation. During Basic and AIT you will be considered Active and get paid full pay.

You drill one weekend a month and 2 weeks of the year so only get drill pay which isn’t much. You will NOT get paid more than what you are earning now. Each state does it differently when it comes to paying for college.
