Isn't it worrying that the PM naively believes "public transport operators will also be following COVID-secure standards"?
Particularly when he is encouraging "anyone who can’t work from home, for instance those in construction or manufacturing" to go to work.
It doesn't take a genious to realise that public transport operators like TfL have no chance of following "COVID-secure standards" and once again essential workers like NHS staff will be forced to travel on crowded trains with non-essential workers like construction workers. Trains were already crowded this morning.

It’s clear that the government are no longer using * pure* science to guide their policies, not that they ever really did.
Of course, the economy, society and above all politics has never been purely scientific, whether that’s a bad thing or not is up for theoretical discussions, but it remains a brute fact of life.
Public transportation allows large amounts of individuals to move great distances at once, hence inevitably it will allow infection to move in large amounts great distances at once, that’s a given.
We can try to mitigate that movement by wearing masks, washing hands and deep cleaning, but if you catch public transportation regularly it’s almost inevitable you’ll catch a virus and spread it on all over the place. No real getting around that one

By the time you've queued up to buy a ticket and queued up for the train or bus, it'd almost be time to come home!

I have never heard such a load of waffle in all my born days. If this is the government then god help us. They haven't an ounce of common sense. They might as well just lift lockdown and we all get on with things. People aren't going to listen to their rubbish anymore.

Where he was naive was thinking people wanted to know the rationale behind the next stages, when in fact all they want is nice simple instructions to follow and not to think about how the death rate will be going up again.

I think Boris is going all *Trumpish*, making vague announcements without discussing them with any other bodies. I also, firmly believe that hes being pressured by Trump to make noises which sound like Britain is open again to help Trump claim that his plans are not stupid? Why the hell it was necessary to broadcast last night before presenting a 50 page plan to Parliament today is confusing, as is urging people to return to work before discussing it with employers and the Unions...

Not really. Sadiq Kahn who runs Transport for London is involved with Cobra. People are supposed to avoid using public transport, but when they do will have to stagger their journey times. The operators will have to run more trains at less capacity and employers be flexible on working hours.
