What racist chapter in U.S. history makes you the most ashamed to be American and why?

I would say for me the removal and genocide of Native Americans and I would say it's because you know they are the natives that we're here first and I find myself not always knowing how to get perspective on the guilt issue without feeling like you are rationalizing the history of what we had done to the USA's indigenous population. Plus people including non-native Americans are so ungodly rigid and ideological about it sometimes to the point they will almost guilt trip you into being unpatriotic or ashamed of your own country because they think it's the only way you are going to recognize that historical reality.

How about for you though. What racist chapter in American-History causes you the most guilt and as such causes you to feel the least patriotic as such?

I think I will give perhaps an uncommon answer, and that is the chapter of today. There are current statistics that have shown that there has been an increase in antisemitism, and racist acts towards minorities over the last few years. Last year, the FBI reported the highest amount of hate-crime violence against minorities in 16 years. In America, the racial tensions continue to increase almost on a yearly basis, despite the fact that the United States continues to be diverse along with changing demographics. The reason that I see the current chapter in American history as being shameful, is because it shows that we as a country have not yet learned the lessons of history.

While slavery, the Jim Crow era, as well as the extermination of Native Americans was indeed horrific, the United States cannot undo the past. We can only learn from history and seek to avoid repeating it in current time. The system of racism in the United States continues to be pernicious and an unfortunate mainstay in the culture. While the good news is that social media has exposed various acts that would never be known otherwise, the fabric of our country has not yet overcome its sordid past. That is because the mythology and construct of race still remains. In addition, you still have the principles of said mythology that is responsible for how the legal as well as the social dynamics operate. While I am not ashamed to be an American, I am disappointed and at times perplexed at how many in this country can ignore the realities that race plays, and those who have the power do nothing to change the trajectory of the system.

All of them because racism is racism, doesn't matter how big or small it is.

Slavery and Jim Crow. Some white people are just disgusting. I wouldn't change being an American for anything though.

Natives had nothing to do with America, they were probably on this land first and that's it.

White Guilt does not work anymore. All those things happened centuries ago. Nobody alive is even remotely responsible for that.

The world was a rat race back then. You think only white people engaged in such behavior? Wars and Conquest were normal in those days.  All races and civilizations were doing that same thing.

Also, whites are the only race that is facing demographic crisis right now. Because of mass immigration into white societies. Mass immigration is happening even in Europe.

I'm not ashamed of them, because I didn't do any of that. I just know that we have to learn from those incidents so they don't happen again. Based on what just happened in Georgia we still have a way to go.
