Whether you are male or female, for some light reading try reality fiction novels Dangerous Days and its sequel Blades both by J. William Turner. Set mainly in Australia with chapters in California and London, UK.

What you're taking in before going to bed, visually, aurally, and by reading, does shape your nightly dream experience.

Would therefore suggest "Imitation of Christ" attributed to Thomas a Kempis, for a paragraph or two of inspiration, along with what your genre tastes are.

Would recommend fairly kind and uplifting, cheery books, such as "The Code of the Woosters," "In a Sunburned Country," "For Couples Only," "The Kindness Challenge," and  "The Great Divorce," and, if your preference is for darker material, something like Lilian Braun's "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" and "That Hideous Strength."

If you're into fiction paired with maybe a bit of mystery, I have a good recommendation. The series is called

Keeper of the Lost Cities

. The author is Shannon Messenger.

If you want to get into reading why not start your conversion into a bookworm with short stories? Read one or two before you go to sleep?

The advantage is that they won't leave you hanging but provide a satisfying closure and usually don't drag as some portions of novels do*.

Short stories will also let you find out what kind of story you find most intriguing without "wasting" too much time.

You could go for some of the classical short story writers, such as O. Henry or Saki whose stories are available in pretty complete collections for little money.

If you like science fiction I can recommend "The Collected Stories". Massive collection, not very expensive - and like O. Henry's and Saki's stories these are often short enough to read one before bed.

Inexpensive and voluminous story collections are also available for H. P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe.

You've probably realized by now that I like genre fiction (SF, fantasy, horror) and if you're not allergic to these, I can recommend Stephen King's story collections. There are lots of gems in there.

He's also got several novella collections (such as "Different Seasons", "Four Past Midnight" or "If It Bleeds") which you can transition to after the short stories before you sink in your teeth into novels.

* that isn't necessarily bad - many books have slower parts that can be enjoyable too but may be a turn-off for new "inexperienced" readers
