When change my motorcycle clutch should I put the motorcycle in neutral?

I think I may have tightened the spring bolts to tight and it wont go in to 2nd gear only 1st and neutral so hopefully I just didn't do it in the right gear please help

    It really shouldnt matter. However refer to the manual. You do have a manual? Step one of any repair is get the book. As for how tight a bolt is..... manual will tell you the correct torque. And torque sequence.

    It would be better if it is in neutral but it really does not matter.  Check the clutch installation again.  No luck, selector fork could be bad.
