will 225 60 r17 snow tires fit on 235 65 r17?

So I bought a new vehicle with 235 65 r17 tires on them. The snow tires on separate rims for my previous vehicle are 225 60 r17. There is still some decent thread on them and I'd rather keep them instead of selling it. But my question is will the smaller snow tires be ok on my vehicle or should I just get a new set

Will the fit? Yes they will fit but they are not an acceptable swap. They are 5% smaller in overall diameter than the OEM tires. You should never go over or under 3%. Your speedometer will read 63 mph at a true 60 mph. Fuel mileage will be adversely effected.

K-Y's answer is correct and just to add, the load index on the snows may be too low for your new vehicle.  The load index is the indicator of how much weight the tire can safely carry.  If it is lower than the minimum specified, it is not recommended.

Gas mileage might suffer with a slightly lower profile tire but it's only for the winter months and who gets good MPG's in the dead of winter, anyway? Just slap 'em on and roll. Speedometer might read a little higher than actual speed, too.
