Can you burn the flag of a former country in the United States?

This one's out of curiosity. We see people burn the American flag, but what about other flags? Like the flags of France, the (former) USSR, China, the UK, and so on? Is that prohibited or do people actually do it and are allowed to?

Burn any flag that you want as long as it's your own flag -  First Amendment.

It's not illegal to burn Old Glory (although extremely unpatriotic) or any other flag. Some would like to make it illegal to burn the US flag, though, but it's been rule freedom of speech by the Supreme Court.

A few years ago, some Americans came up to Canada, and publicly burned a Canadian flag as a protest.  Except that is how we normally dispose of flags in Canada - we burn them.  So, the protest fell completely flat, as the Canadians did not care, which really surprised the protesters.

In most countries, flags are burned.  I think the USA  is one of the only ones where this is problematic.

Of course you can.  Freedom of speech.

However.......people that have been *arrested* for burning the American flag..........were not arrested for the act itself.....but because they perhaps  set the fire in the middle of a crowd, causing public danger......which is a crime.

Or, they STOLE the flag,  from someone, or public buildings,  and again,  the crime there is THEFT and Property destruction....NOT burning the flag, per se.

You can burn the flag......as long as its YOUR flag.....and you do so, reasonably safely......without endangering anyone else.

I personally, do NOT agree with it.....as a veteran, and think there are better ways to protest.........but that's just my humble opinion.

The law of the land, says you are allowed to do it......so not my call.
