Am I getting this right..people who are unemployed during Covid are not only getting regular unemployment but $600 more a week?

What the #$&! Why the hell even work at all!

Update:

Just absolutely sickening. What the hell was the government thinking?

They were, but it ended at the end of July.  I's reinstatement is one of the areas of disagreement between the new parties for a new bill.

No, they used to be.  They're not anymore.  And that's bad, because if too many of them go back to work, then there will be more COVID-19 deaths, and so many workers out sick that businesses will have to close and then there will be more unemployment.

The $600/week federal bonus expired 7/31 so technically you're wrong.   Had you asked this two weeks ago you would have been correct.

Yes, in some locations the federal bonus made it really, really hard to find workers for entry-level jobs.   Help wanted signs are everywhere while people sit at home collecting $4000/month ($8000 if a couple).    That's $23/hour.

Workers who are used to making more than $50k/year (or $24/hour) do better by working than collecting unemployment especially when you factor in benefits like medical insurance.    The federal bonus has very little detrimental effect on filling well-paid jobs.

Someone who is used to 90k is unlikely to want to sit at home on unemployment with no medical insurance.   But if you were a burger flipper at Mickey D's, it's like Christmas every day.

    Yep.

    Exactly.
