(a) How much thermal energy must be added to the engine in each cycle?

(b) Find the thermal efficiency of the engine.

    (a) 2000J + 4000J = 6000J must be input to the engine each cycle.

    (b) η (efficiency) = (energy in – energy out)/(energy in) x 100% = (6000 – 4000)/6000 x 100 % = 331/3%.
