When I play a square enix game like FFX for example, I noticed that any time that the game had a cutscene they would switch to a pre-rendered version to make the game look better graphically, but when they weren't using a pre-rendered version of the cutscene it looked like dog ****. It looked so ******* bad that it make's sonic adventure 2 look like ******* pixar. Holy ****. Why the **** is this?

Lol the last part is honestly a joke I really dont know why you guys got so triggered over me saying that sonic adventure 2 looks better when it probably does. The meaning of this question and the main plot wasn't about why the game look's bad It's about why they ended up wasting their time with a ******* amazing rendered cutscene that your right! it does look good now. But the game's main graphic source isn't that good. I know you might think it look's good now because that's all you ******* play but listen man, I've gotten some decent anwser's from you guys but I don't get how this can be misunderstood.

To make an entire game have the same quality as a FMV, would have cost a fortune back then. This is assuming the tech was even available or the hardware to support it.

FFX is an early generation PS2 game, over 15 years old. The PS2 hardware wasn't capable of running in-game graphics that could match the special more-detailed cutscenes. The in-game graphics were simpler because that's all the PS2 could handle at the time. Square's developers were still learning the newer hardware.
Regardless, it looked MILES beyond the weaker Dreamcast games. Hell, it still looks pretty nice even now. You must be blind or something. The current ports of FFX are going to look understandably dated, because the game is super old.
