Why can't I take alcohol over the u.s./Mexico border ?

So I was planning to take alcohol from Mexico to USA & I was told it is no longer allowed . A few months months ago , I was able to take , but now , why not ? Does it have to do with the pandemic ? Why ?

I have brought in one liter per person coming off a cruise, no problem.  I packed it in dirty laundry, not to hide it but to protect it from breaking.

Who told you this? I have not heard this but it is possible but it may be restricted by the state that you are trying to enter as it is still legal according to the customs website but they do note that the state of entry my have stricter regulations.
