Because stocks are complicated, and most people just aren't aware of simpler solutions like investing in mutual funds.

Its fear of the risk and unknown. Ive tried to get many people involved in it because I know and have seen in my own account that it is a money maker. Im not saying its all been smooth sailing, but for the most part it has been. I guess some people never get that free wheeling, betting spirit. Its not a true bet like gambling, yet in a way it is.

If there is any possibility of losing money then I won't invest in the stock market!!!

I found the below information on the world wide web. I don't see anything in the below paragraph that indicates that I would be able to make money from the stock market. What I understand from reading the below paragraph is people who invest in the stock market gamble their money, and YES they can either make, or lose their money!!!

I refuse to invest in something I don't understand 100%, and plus I am not interested in learning about it either. I would prefer to invest my money in me instead of something that has has enough risk of me losing what I have. If I were to gamble my money then I would have to be 100% positive that I would win not like me having the impression that I would lose whatever I put in. Because I think that would be a stupid thing to do!

"Due to the way stocks are traded, investors can lose quite a bit of money if they don't understand how fluctuating share prices affect their wealth. ... Remember—while stock markets have historically gone up over time, they also experience bear markets and crashes where investors can and have lost money."

Fear of losing their money.  Unwillingness to assume risks.  Ignorance.
