How do you have a healthy friendship with a guy before dating? ?

Me and this guy was dating over the summer but he thinks it’s best we have a friendship first because we are really good friends. Yet we’re still intimate, cuddle, and spend time with each other..but we still do act like friends. He literally tells me the girl’s he talks to. I see he can do this without getting his feelings involve but I still like him. He thinks we would be great together he claims when I get older. I’m 25 he’s 34. I’m not waiting around for him but I secretly wouldn’t mind us dating. How can I have a healthy friendship with him? Before we actually start dating again? Or am I not respecting myself for not walking away from the situation?

I think you need to put an end to the intimacy and cuddling if what he really wants is to remain friends until you're "older". His feelings aren't involved. Your's are. You WERE dating, now he's assigned you to a FWB or just friends... that's a demotion. "Someday when you're older" is what you tell a 19 year old, not a 25 year old. I suggest you be friends who can visit when they run into each other out and about or so and nothing else while you date other people. You've been demoted. He's made that clear while leaving it open to play around with you if you don't care that you've been demoted. If you keep seeing him, your feelings are going to get very hurt. Turn your attentions elsewhere.

He tells you the girls he talks to? Hes letting you know that when he is ready to get into a relationship with you, these girls will still be apart of his life. ( watch out for what he says) Guys usually say what they mean. Simply just be friends, keep your options open. This guy does not want you at the moment, and I don't know if you want to wait around and find out if he ever will.
