Why do some retailers/chain stores ship packages to their own store for customer pick-up, instead of sending them directly to the consumer?

Update:

Some items are not available in their own brick-and-mortar stores; they must be ordered online. Thus, they have to ship the individual item(s) in, usually, one box to their own store in the customer's name, so, if anything, they are paying more to ship it.

It is vastly cheaper for the retailer and usually the buyer.

Shipping is cheaper, since they already have goods going to that store.
