I just keep seeing the covid cases go up where I live. But seems like mask use is also up. Do face mask actually work?

If they were going to work it would have happened by now.
Maybe they do make some small difference but some "experts" saying 3 months ago the masks would reduce virus cases by 90 percent within a few weeks may be the most inaccurate and overly optimistic advice ever given.
Every night I see this on the news, everyone wearing masks and the number of positives setting record after record, just hope they get a vaccine soon.

They are proven to help prevent the spread of airborne virus. Trump holds rallies in Oklahoma and S. Dakota. S. Dakota holds the Sturgis event. Very few masks were worn. Both those states are suffering a big increase in new cases as we speak. These states aren't very populated ... it's reckless behavior. New Orleans held Mardi Gras w/o masks. Louisiana was one of the early hot spots. NYC was the hottest spot because so much virus arrived there f/ overseas. Today, because of mitigation measures like masks, it has one of the lowest infection rates.
Say 2 naked men are in front of each other. One pees on the other, he gets all the urine. If he's wearing pants, he only gets partially wet. If they both wear pants, he doesn't get wet.
I don't care how many illegal drugs one does. It's their life. But when their habit infringes on others, that crosses the line. If someone doesn't want to wear a mask and they get sick, that's on them. But when their reckless behavior infects innocent others like their loved ones, that's a travesty of severe magnitude.
The stakes are too high to be wrong.
It's ticking up in my zip code too (about 4 new cases daily) ... we're only strong as the weak links. Picture it rising rapidly w/o the mitigation (say 20 new cases daily). If it was rising rapidly, I would self quarantine again.

So local COVID-19 cases increased and then local mask usage increased? Have you heard the expression "closing the barn door after the horse has bolted'?

I honestly don't know if they work. More than anything I think a big issue is that the masks give people a false sense of security. Sure, maybe they help to some degree, but any safety they provide is instantly negated by people thinking that the mask will let them stand closer together than seven feet, or thinking that as long as you're wearing a mask that you can go to a party or large get together. So do masks work? I'm no expert so I can't tell you one way or another, but what I can tell you is that it they're a a mixed bag that can cause as much harm as good when people are idiots and think wearing a mask makes them invincible.

Yes, they work just a bunch of idiots refuse to wear them and keep spreading it to other non mask wearers and they spread it to family so it won't stop for a long time unforuntely.

from what i read , they work very well if "everyone" in a givin vicinity is wearing one, basically, masks are far more efficient at keeping your exhalement away from others but not so good at filtering out other people from you, so and this is my understanding, not what i read... it is far more efficient at protecting others from the user than protecting the user from others, but it's not in the authorities interest for the public to know this, otherwise many people might decide to not wear one where they otherwise might have....in all the articles i read masks are very efficient if wearing is universal, note this info wasn't found on an official cv19 awareness site, but it did state that it had been scientifically though unofficially proven.....but at the end of the day, it's up to you who and what you want to believe..
hmm again in video games....p
