Why didn't UK do more to help the Irish during The Great Famine?

Henry John Temple, Peel and Queen Victoria are all responsible for The Great Famine. Instead of the Irish fleeing to Australia, Canada, USA, UK should have opened up their nation to the Irish Catholics.

They did all turn up here.   And, as they say ~ the famine is over.  Why don't they go home?   (The Irish were exporting corn all the way through the famine.  Business is business!)

The rest of the UK did try to help and sent what would be many millions worth of aid in today's money. However they kept trying to tinker with the social structure of Ireland and made the assumption that the system of peasants was uneconomic and only landowners could make efficient use of the land. Then there was simmering resentment and sheer bloody mindedness over the fact that many Irish people were still opposed to the Act of Union. So they bumbled into letting market forces try to solve the problem and allowed foreign aid to be offered.  See the info in the link:

Nature created the potato blight but the brits created the famine simply because they hated and were racist towards the irish they didn't want to help
