I genuinely have no idea and I assume I must be in the minority because no-one says to the politician mid-speech: "hey, what on earth does that mean?"

Mostly, "American Exceptionalism" is a rallying cry for wannabe fascists. Instead of identifying and addressing the inequities in our lives, we should just take solace in the belief that America is great and Republican leaders are infallible.
