How does stopping people from talking to each other "strengthen a community"?

Update:

Who "fights" in the comment section? People make comments in reaction to what they read. You can still do that, but it takes more effort.

Stopping people from ranting, cursing, insulting each other, insulting the author of the article (News) or the people the article was about, reduces abuse on the site. As for Yahoo Answers, same thing goes...it reduces abuse by reducing the amount of insults posted to respondents or question askers, mindless chat, or users that are blocked being able to post an answer anyway, by doing so in the comments under someone else's answer.

Who "fights in the comment section"? Quite a few people. Quite a bit of the commenting was nothing but users arguing with each other, especially political articles. Comments were typically little more than a string of insults to other commenters, insults about the person/people who were the topic of the article, or mindless screaming of FAKE NEWS (or similar). It was like a bunch of foul mouthed 3 yr olds (with typing skills) had taken over the comment section. It's removal is no loss at all, with regard to quality of content on Yahoo (and that includes considering many people feel a number of their articles are biased and nonsense).

It strengthens the community by showing us exactly who the enemy is. Anyone that wants to take things away from you is the enemy. Whether its your money, guns, gasoline, or comments..Marxist-socialist democrats always want to take.

Yahoo has attempted to skew the US election, and should be sanctioned accordingly.

    It doesn't

but saying that it does may fool you into thinking that Verizon cares

Frist, Answers is an information exchange site and never a chatroom. All chatting does is defeat the purpose of this site. Anyone who posts chatty questions and answers will be reported and their content is subsequently deleted. What works well in social media and instant messaging services won't work here.

Second, Verizon has turned off the comments section on Answers due to inappropriate and offensive postings. Safety and security issues are the factors behind the decision.

Remember the only way to strengthen this community is by exchanging knowledge.

This is not a Chat Room the Comment Feature is not used to chat with Each Other

Comments are used for to Add something to the Other Persons Answer

the Main Reason why Comments were turned Off Because people used them to Cyber Bully a lot of people and Yahoo got a lot of Complaints with it so they wanted a Time out with the Comments
