    When people use the term "Korea", they're talking about South Korea. When people hear "Korea", they always assume that the speaker is referring to South Korea. 

    That right there tells you that South Korea is far more famous and popular than the DPRK.

    South Korea (RoK) is famous.

    North Korea (DPRK) is infamous.

    South...at least you can go there...and come back home.

    FWIW, I've been there 7 times.  Great country, food and people.
