What are specialist schools?

In Great Britain what are specialist schools? I ask because I could not find a proper answer any where else online!

    Specialist schools are secondary schools that focus on a particular area of the curriculum.   Currently there are specialist schools that focus on  technology, language, arts, sports, business and enterprise, engineering, mathematics and computing, science, humanities and music.

    Schools that teaches a specific skill like engineering, law, medicine or a trad like auto-mechanics, cosmetology culinary etc.
