Would a company be required to pay hazard bonuses for going into Covid positive homes ? ?

I work for a company that sets up patients on oxygen, we also check on them and their equipment monthly as well as replace tanks.  We spend time in these homes that have an entire family of Covid positives sometimes. We started off getting a small bonus and they suddenly stopped giving them although we’re still seeing Covid patients

Extra payments are not required. By now, workers should have mastered proactive prevention measures, e.g. have masks, gloves if needed, know to wash hands & face frequently, etc.

Companies are not required to pay hazardous pay for this type of work although some companies with employees at increased risk have been voluntarily doing so. You might want to bring the subject up with your suoervisor or the HR Dept.

  • If you get sick days or vacation days, see if you can use them if you do contract it.

If you have to go into a home with covid positive people, wear a mask. The people that are positive should be self isolating, or wearing a mask and practicing physical distancing as much as possible.

They're not going to give you a bonus for contracting covid.

Of course not.  Wear a mask - take the necessary precautions to do the job safely.  Do you think inspection engineers get bonuses for inspecting structures 400 feet in the air?  Do you think astronauts get bonuses for leaving planet earth?  Do you think military personnel get bonuses when they have to get into a submarine and descend 300 feet?  Do you think Titanic employees got bonuses for working in the Titanic on its maiden voyage? 😫 Or any cruise line employees, just because they are in the middle of the ocean?
