It might be alright with the wines that YOU drink but you would lose a great deal of the enjoyment of good wine.

Because it gets your nose too far from the beverage. Wine is appreciated by sipping it, sometimes holding it in the mouth and "swishing" it, then swallowing it and contemplating the aftertaste. This though I have consumed MD2020 from a bota (wineskin) while watching a Mardi Gras parade in NOLA.

It might be alright with the wines that YOU drink but you would lose a great deal of the enjoyment of good wine. If you ever have a good wine to drink, look at it, swirl it to note the "legs", inhale the bouquet, take some in your mouth and enjoy the mouthfeel, swallow it, and then enjoy the aftertaste.
Dammit, now I'm thirsty.

Generally, it's because you should enjoy the wine with your full palate. A straw will force the wine to the back of your tongue only. Plus, it's tacky. Some people will use a straw in the privacy of their own homes for red wine, since that can cause tooth stains, or if they just got their teeth whitened or something, but it just doesn't look right having a straw sticking out of a wine glass with dinner.
