Is polygamy the new monogamy?

I know that monogamous relationships still exist, but imo that idea and viewpoint seems to be dwindling, due to dying morals and principals. I live in a small town, there is seemingly enough of a female to male ratio, but i've heard through the grape vine that people here on average go through 14 partners a month, 14!

That to me, is insane (my town isn't THAT small lol). But are those odds any better in cities? As someone who has experience in "playing the field" once upon a time, i can say not much, city women, men too, are way more promiscuous. I often wonder if ever-increasing social media is to blame or us, or both. Discuss?

Update:

Yeah i worry that a lot of them end up having intercourse with siblings and cousins etc. It's disgusting

The denizens of your city accumulate higher body counts in one month than the average human does in a lifetime. In fact 14 is about double the stat researchers point to in human sexuality studies. Guess it's just really boring where you live so chasing sex is all there is to do.

No, in most places you still can't be married to more than one person at a time.

14 partners a month equals to a new one every two days. That' s not monogamy nor polyamourous. It's prostitution or at least runaway consumerism.

So is your town rife with prostitutes or nymphomaniacs?

You live in a weird town.  Statistically, the average American woman has 6 sexual partners in her lifetime.  The average for men is 7.  Other countries have slightly higher or lower averages, but they're all in the same general ballpark.  If everyone in your town is going through 14 partners per month, contact a university or the CDC to let them know there's a prime opportunity for research into a radically deviant population.
