I've had a few pepper grinders over the years that had plastic 'burrs' that broke.I would 'assume' that a grinder with metal 'burrs' would last longer.The grinder I do have now is plastic,and its' lasted so far.An adjustable grind is kinda important even though I rarely make any adjustment. If you use a search (such as Google) all I see is only where to buy ! ! LOL that is not a helpful search imo,but that is the way things are now unfortunately. My very best opinion is to use a blade grinder that you would use specifically for spices (I'm not 'pushing' a specific brand),but I really like Krups.You can adjust size easily by how long you grind,and has a reasonable cost.It lasts almost forever,but of course its' your choice.

I have a Kuhn Rikon that I use a lot.  I have several of them I have one for whole peppercorns, one for coarse salt, one for red pepper flakes in case I need some finer than the crushed flakes.  I also have one that I put dried garlic in so I can get garlic powder so I am not buying 2 types of dried garlic. 

Brand names are really irrelevant since the only thing you look for is a consistent grind. Which basically means that you have to go to a store and try them out.

Some grinders have one size grind by twisting it forward, and a different one for grinding it backwards. 

I have several, granted some look fancy for the table. Some give a fine grind and others give a coarse grind. The Fine grind goes on the table, the Coarse grind goes over the stove top. If I am cooking for a Lot of people, I will grind my own to cook with.
