Unemployment benefit denial question?
So a relative applied for unemployment in Cali but was denied in a letter where EDD asked to verify his identity and requested a copy of his ID to be sent within a certain period of time. He got sick and unfortunately missed the appeal deadline which was 11/25 to present his ID and now he wants me to help him re-apply again beginning of January. Can you re-apply all over again for unemployment if you were denied and missed the appeal deadline or do you get just 1 chance to apply and see what happens?

It's nearly 2 months since he failed to appeal his denial. He cannot reapply now. He has been out of work far too long & has no currently valid insurance contributions to be eligible.

The EDD is so messed up right now that even people with applications in good standing from months ago aren't getting paid. My own loan out corp is one of many purged from the system because of the EDD computer meltdown. Millions of business owners are having to reapply for EDD entity numbers just to pay last year's taxes. So you can always help this person apply again but the chances it'll lead to actual payments is minimal.
