My new comforter smells like old wood/mildew. Should I return or keep washing?

I just got my comforter and it has a very strong smell of, like, old wood. My grandpa has a 100 year old wooden grand piano and that's exactly what my comforter smells like. I hate that smell. I washed it with vinegar as the internet instructs and this is the second time I've washed it and the smell is not as strong so I wanted to know if I should just keep washing it and eventually it'll go away or should I return it. The reason why I'm concerned about the return is because my comforter isn't sold in stores, it only comes from warehouses so I don't know if it smells like that because it's been in an old warehouse for weeks and if I get a new one, it's going to have the same smell because it's been in the same warehouse?

    Return it.  It sounds like you got a used one.  You didn't get it from Amazon, did you?  They aren't the only ones that accept anything back and pass it off as new to the next customer.  You have to be very careful these days.  If you bought new, it should be new.  The comforter is likely not new at all.  It was used, made stinky, packaged and shipped back.  The jerks probably didn't even wash it.

    hang it outside on the clothesline for a couple of days.  In theater, that is how we freshen up costumes that have been in storage.  IT WORKS!

    They won't take it back.  You are not suppose to wash it.  Says so on the tag. Dryclean only.

    You should have returned it as soon as you opened the box and smelled the mildew.  Right now, since you washed it so many times.............I'm not sure if they'll allow you to return it or not.

    It is extremely unlikely that you can return this after you've washed it.

    This could be some sort of sizing or treatment of the fabric or filling.

    I have a washer and dryer at home but they aren't big enough to wash my big comforters which I take the to laundromat.

    Try using the big front loaders at the laundromat and use both detergent and a stain remover like oxyclean.

    You can also put a hand towel doused with essential oil in the dryer with it.

    idea: maybe a drycleaner can get the smell out with the cleaning solutions they use. {idk what the cost would be.}
