It has more to do with planets in the first house more than the Rising Sign. Like someone said, Mars on the ascendant (AKA, in the first house) is more appealing on men. Venus is more appealing on women.

The Ascendant indicates the "appearance" of our personality .. not our body. The idea that it indicates our physical appearance is a misunderstanding.
The Ascendant is our superficial social mask .. the behaviors we hide behind when we are in a social situation and not yet totally relaxed in it. And the less-comfortable we are there, the more we act like our Ascendant Sign.
