How easy is it to sue a school or a college?
A relative of mine asked me how to sue a school since the student in particular is writing appeals to the school since the student got an unfair grade due to a false accusation of misconduct but now the family is considering to sue the university since the student's appeal letter was denied. Preponderance of the evidence is a much lower standard when compared to beyond a reasonable doubt.

It's easy enough but you will need to hire a lawyer because the procedure is different. Trying to represent yourself in Small Claims Court would surely result in a dismissal, for your failure to do the required, that is not required when suing an individual.

Universities have attorneys too. They will defend against your suit, particularly in a case of academic misconduct. You'll need plenty of money for legal fees if you intend to sue.

If your "relative" wants to face off against the school or college lawyers in question, then by all means, go for it.
