If buy a a piece of vacant land and don't follow the building time commitment can I get in trouble? (read description) ?

I'm looking to buy a vacant lot from my local government, they say that it has a 5 year building commitment. Am I legally obligated to build within 5 years, could they take it away from me? or could I just sit on it?

This is something you will have to ask THEM--not yahoo answers. We don't even know what government you are buying it from, or where you are--so how would anyone  here be able to answer this question?

I am also interested to buy a piece of land. I am considering to buy a piece of land anywhere in Canada, but I would prefer to buy a piece of land in the province that I am currently living in, and yes I reside in Canada.

You could probably be told to vacate your property if you don't build what you are told to build. You probably think it's a good deal to buy a piece of vacant land, but trust me when I say it's an awful deal. Whatever you are told to build then you have to build it, and if you are given a certain amount of time to build it then you have to build it within the time frame.

Regarding myself, I don't want to buy a piece of land in Canada that has the rules, or laws that I mentioned above.

My circumstances are unique. I don't have a diver's license, but I have a boat license. I think it's illegal to travel by water in Canada without having a boat license, and I just, so happen to have my boat license. I was thinking if someone was not, so greedy as to sell me a piece of an island, or an entire island at a fair price. I saw an entire island, for sale in Canada, and if I remember correctly it cost $525,000.

I would like to be able to live somewhere where it's uninhabited, so I don't know how I can buy land that is uninhabited, or if I can just go to where I want to go.

Remember I used the word fair, for a good reason, and I have done research about some islands.

There are other pieces of land in Canada that does't have the rules, or laws that you, and me mentioned. I know where the land is, but I don't know if someone would have to pay, for it, and how to go about paying, for it. There are two different types of land that I would like to live on, and I mentioned what one of those types of land are.

If you do RESEARCH on your own then you can learn more stuff like me!

You'll sign something, and yes, you have to do it.

They will take it away,  you violated the contract.

The contract should spell this out, you are going to have to check it. If its not mentioned, then nothing happens if you miss the deadline (you just continue to own a vacant lot) but might want to ask on that regardless, just in case.  They probably want it built on and are selling it with that in mind so might want to ask in phrasing like "If things dont work out with the financing and I can't build immediately, what happens?  How about if I can't get work going until after the committment date?' - but check the contract first and that'll likely give you the answer right away.

depends on the contract.  there could be fines, they could foreclose...we have no way of knowing......

They can't  take it away, but after 5 years you would have to apply again for planning.

They sure could if you don't do what you committed to.
